Top Five Tips for Acting Auditions

Auditions and getting the part are the goals of every actor. It can be exciting and stressful at the same time. In order to increase your chances of getting the part remember the following basic audition tips!

BE ON TIME – Always arrive 15 minutes early! If you arrive late you will lose the opportunity to audition.

BE PREPARED – Bring your headshot and resume! Know your lines and be prepared to perform.

BE INDUSTRY SMART – Know the acting industry’s terminology otherwise you won’t be able to follow the Casting Director’s instructions. Examples:  slating, hitting the mark, call-back, voucher, back-to-one, demo tape, holding, etc.

ALWAYS BE PROFESSIONAL – You need knowledge, experience (acting classes are a great way to get experience) and a lot of confidence! Good manners are a must and remember to turn off your cell phone. And lastly, dress professionally or in some cases, you may be required to dress for the part you are auditioning for. In other words, don’t show up like you just rolled out of bed!

LEAVING THE AUDITON – You will be told ‘thank you’ and you will be expected to leave promptly. This isn’t the time to ask questions about how you did! Be sure to check in with your agent so he/she knows you went to the audition. Your agent will be contacted by the Casting Director if you get a call-back.
